Asni / Astrid Nielsch

Multimedia - meaning music, concept design & illustration, 3D modeling, video, web/interactive design & content. www.asni.net

Favourite tools:

Macbook Pro with Lightwave, Final Cut, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Dreamweaver & Flash, Garageband. Digital video & still cameras, Wacom tablet, 4B graphite pencils, paintbrushes. Occasionally I also play the harp.

Inspiration:

If I could somehow distill:
- the light dancing on choppy waves
- the shades of colour on a mountainside under chasing clouds after a rain
- the shapes of rocks on the Wellington shoreline
- the smell of wet earth, a wood fire and good food cooking
- the rhythm of rain drumming on a tin roof
- the melody of water bubbling down a hillside
- the harmony of silence that is never really silence
- the poetry of birdsong at dawn
- the taste of honey and ripe cherries and fresh baked bread with butter
- the feel of waves round my body when I dive, or of cats fur running through my fingertips
- the pain and joy and silliness and seriousness of the people that I meet
- the wisdom and wonder of stories I read or hear told
- the solemnity of an ancient church in Europe
- The intricacy of a carved whare
- The energy of the Rolling Stones
- The dignity of a waiata
- The grace of bodies in movement

Then I would probably be making something approaching good art.
Otherwise, I'd quite like to make the world a better place.
There's a task.

Listening to:

Silence - or good music.
Some music I like: Bjork, Claudio Monteverdi, Whirimako Black, Franz Schubert, Abba, Claude Debussy, Janis Joplin, Susheela Raman, Fat Freddys Drop, Toumani Diabate, Tragicomedia (in no particular order). I also like to listen to my own cds - that's why I make them! :-D

My Big Idea:

Why focus on one thing if you can do it all ?
