- A bit about
My project is called ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Project’, together with the ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Prize’.
The main outcome will be a publication of new poems from Australian and New Zealand poets matched with poems written before Remembrance Day 2011 and dating back to the mid 1800s.
The new poems will, I hope, reflect the diversity of views that surround the many military commemorations and anniversaries occurring today.
The older poems will illustrate changes that have occurred over time (to whom ‘Freedom’ applied at the turn of the 19th century was different from today) as well as how Australians and New Zealanders have viewed military actions and, at times, those involved such as the different treatment of Aboriginal and Maori soldiers to the changing role of women.
These poems will be complimented by photographs of war memorials from ‘country’ Australia and New Zealand.

- Big Idea
The ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Project’, together with the ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Prize’ is asking Australian and New Zealand writers of poetry to answer the following questions: -
What does ANZAC Day mean to you, to today's families, communities or nations?
What about Remembrance Day or other military commemoration or anniversary?
The objectives of the 100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Project are:
To use new poetry written by today’s poets to illustrate the diversity of current views about Australia’s and New Zealand’s commemorations of military history and how these influence, or have influenced, modern society; To provide an opportunity for today’s poets from Australia and New Zealand to express their thoughts and ideas about how their nations’ commemorations of military history, together with the emotions these evoke, are reflected in modern society; and
To contrast these modern views with those from the past by including poems from the 19th and 20th centuries and the early years of this century.
The overriding principle of my project is to provide the greatest diversity of views and opinions. This principle will apply to both the selection of poems and determining prize winners in the competition.
All poems submitted or entered into my project's prize will be considered as the final publication is firstly a book of views, opinions and ideas.
