- A bit about
Andy Mauafua is one of the busiest musicians in New Zealand as both a working musician and educator. He's worked with some of the country's leading recording artists such as Annie Crummer, Brooke Fraser, Aaradhna, Bella Kalolo, Iva Lamkum, Southside of Bombay, Ardijah, Adeaze, Vince Harder, Seth Haapu, Lisa Tomlins, Sweet & Irie, Sacha Vee, Jon Stevens, Deva Mahal, Toni Huata, Ria Hall, and American singer-songwriter Ginger Leigh. Music has taken Andy overseas playing the international cover band circuit throughout Asia with the Hard Rock Cafe and Hilton Hotel chains in places like Beijing, China; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia; Manila, Philippines.
In 2005 Andy travelled to the US to study guitar and professional music performance at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. A school whose alumni include producers Quincy Jones and Arif Mardin, singer-songwriters John Mayer and Melissa Etheridge, guitarists Steve Vai and Pat Metheny, film composers Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings), Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future), and Alf Clausen (The Simpsons). While there he was one of a select few that year to be awarded Berklee's coveted 'World Scholarship'. An award given to students who show the most promise and potential.
Andy was a featured writer in the 2010 edition of The Kiwi Diary with a personal story called "The Turning Point". The story of how he discovered his passion for music when he was young.
Outside of music Andy has a strong passion for film having studied at Victoria University and being one of the featured musicians on the soundtrack for the NZ film "The Orator (O Le Tulafale)".
Andy currently teaches music at Whitireia Community Polytechnic in Porirua, Wellington.
