A bit about

Cathy Irons played in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic in South Africa for 10 years before immigrating to Christchurch in 1997. She is currently a first violinist with the Christchurch Symphony and leader of Jubilate Chamber Orchestra, active in performing recitals and in several chamber groups. She plays in Tres Cordes String Trio who have recently released their CD "String Trio Sapphires".

In 2011, she performed in in the Nelson Winter Festival and in 2012 will be performing in the Dunedin Fringe Festival.

She is a session violinist regularly working for several recording studios, arranging and performing with Brooke Fraser, Craig Smith, Julian Hay and Amiria Grenell. She is developing her jazz and cross-over violin playing in a programme which toured southern South Island in 2011 and was met with an overwhelming positive response.

Big Idea

I try to break the conventional model for concerts; chatting to audiences, blurring the edges between show and performance, classical and jazz because I feel music is about sharing a moment in time together and enjoying every minute. Every performance I do amazes me - how the audience picks up on the energy and tremendous fun we have on stage whether it is a high quality virtuoso music concert or a bit of sultry jazz.
