- Big Idea
My work experiments with the meeting points of theatre and the internet, and the development of a new medium that I call cyberformance. Cyberformance is a form of networked performance that brings remote performers together via the internet in real time, for live theatrical events. These events could be entirely online, or presented for a proximal offline audience. Since 2002, I have worked primarily with the globally dispersed cyberformance troupe, Avatar Body Collision, and our work has been presented at festivals, conferences, universities and arts organisations around the world.
In 2003, I was part of the group that received funding from the Smash Palace Collaboration Fund to develop UpStage - purpose built software for live online performance. UpStage was launched in January 2004 and in 2006 received funding from the Community Partnership Fund of the Digital Strategy which enabled us to release version 2 of the software in June 2007.
In 2008 I completed a Master of Arts (Research) at Queensland University of Technology, investigating cyberformance and contextualising it as a distinct performance art form. You can download my thesis: Adventures in Cyberformance - experiments at the interface of theatre and the internet.
