A bit about

I have been a free-lance consultant for the past 12 years, working predominantly in the area of Maori heritage development, management and research. I have extensive experience working in the areas of archives, museums and libraries, historical research, and land claims. Working as a freelance researcher from home requires a lot of flexibility, patience, initiative and creativity. While my main area of interest is in heritage management, taonga, whakapapa and research, I have also turned my hand to photography, teaching archives management and facilitating hui. I am regularly involved on a voluntary basis with our local community projects relating to our local marae, schools and community facilities.

Recently I have worked with a number of whanau groups who are keen to learn more about preserving, protecting and sharing whakapapa, taonga, heritage photographs and other information and items that are intimately precious to their whanau. There have been increasing requests from whanau as opposed to larger groups such as marae, runanga and other more formal Maori/iwi authorities. I hope this work continues to develop and that Maori and iwi authorities and the heritage sector including museums, archives and libraries look to support the retention, care and appropriate sharing of these precious whanau collections more in the future.
