- A bit about
Lydia Bittner-Baird is tirelessly preoccupied with forging powerful creative connections within communities. This passion distinguishes her as a curator, performer, and emerging producer.
A native of Colorado, Lydia received her classical dance training from Academies of Colorado Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Kirov Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Kaatsbaan International Ballet, with further study at Perry Mansfield, Springboard Danse Montreal, the Risa Steinberg Intensive, and the Merce Cunningham School.
She moved from Denver to New York City to attend Juilliard with scholarships, and received her BFA in 2009. During her career at Juilliard, Lydia had the pleasure of dancing the principle role in Twyla Tharp’s Deuce Coup, while also performing the works of Aszure Barton, Larry Keigwin, Ohad Naharin, Lar Lubovitch, and Anthony Tudor. In addition, she traveled overseas to perform at the International Choreography Competition in Burgos, Spain.
Lydia is dedicated to art outreach, and was awarded a Gluck Community Fellowship for performance, allowing her to bring music and original dance to non-traditional audiences throughout New York City.
In July 2008, Lydia was chosen to work exclusively with world-renowned solo artist Margie Gillis and, in 2009, performed one of Gillis’ most challenging and critically acclaimed solo works.
Since graduation, Lydia has appeared in the creations of award winning artists Rosie Herrera, Liony Garcia, and Rudi Goblen, and Letty Bassart. In 2010 Lydia toured wit Rosie Herrera Dance Theater to perform at the American Dance Festival.
Most recently Lydia curated and co-produced METAMOTO, the first dance+music collaboration to take place at the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center.
