A bit about

Kia ora,
I'm with the group, 'Big Belly Woman". I sing, play, teach and use Taonga Puoro to heal and connect people spiritually from all walks of life. I'm currently using Taonga Puoro in Craniopathy, Cranio & Sacral Therapy.
The sound that best describes our music is ‘healing vibrations melded together with traditional and modern instruments”.
We have evolved from a flax roots community based, founded in 1996 by Karen Browne and myself with a love of music and a commitment to social, environmental and self change. We are currently based in Hokianga, Northland.
I'm lead vocals and Karen Browne (BV, keys, bass guitar, drums and percussion) together we are the driving force behind the band, which combines traditional Maori sounds with rhythm and blues, jazz and Hokianga Pasifika reggae influences.
“Our waiata (songs) depict another view of Aotearoa New Zealand society through the eyes of rural Maori - in particular, Maori of the Far North”.
“Through our music, we challenge New Zealanders to address issues of domestic violence, all forms of abuse and to preserve the environment we live in. We are not ‘touchy feely’ new age, but we believe in the need for global unity. Our music is for people across the board, nationally and internationally. We love sharing our music with the wider Aotearoa / New Zealand public.”

We have a succession of stand out, high energy and often humorous performances that has captivated audiences at conferences and festivals throughout the far north and Nationally.

I do solo performances mixing in Taonga Puoro and dance, club beats with added extra surprises... I love doing workshops too...
I will be on featuring with Ariana Tikao, Hinemoana Baker and Christine White with,'Our Ancestor's Voices' Arts on Tour New Zealand (AOTNZ) in Oct 2011. Check out the new Menu at their website- www.aotnz.co.nz

Big Idea

We need a new massage table so we can work on mummys and babies. Our koha classes ( we love kai) are held every Friday in Rawene, Hokianga. Call and come along to support our kaupapa and get your back aligned, be nutured with the healing sound of our Maori instruments and share kai with us... x
