Big Idea

My design discipline addresses human interaction and sustainability, with a view to unearthing a new relationship between us and our environment. My core philosophy like so many others is born from the teachings of Buckminster Fuller. He believed that humanity was entering a “critical moment” a fundamental fork in the road, that we were about to be confronted by the most profound choice imaginable.... Utopia or Oblivion.. He assessed that we had gained the knowledge not only to destroy “space ship earth” but also to make it work for 100% of humanity using the present resources and technology’s. Which raised the question how do we implement these changes, what can I, as one person do..? How can an individual be affective as an “agent of change” doing more with less..? This thought has been at the core of my work for some time and has led me to consider quite carefully what as a designer can I do to instigate change in the minds of others....

My own work concentrates on using materials that may otherwise be discarded. I find setting myself material restrictions leads to more creative solutions to design issues I truly believe everything can be reused. This desire to implement change fuels my interest in the participatory arts I have drawn great satisfaction from working with participatory art projects in the past, and see infinite value in these programs, for providing a different place for people to think and consider creative resolutions to community problems. Making learning enjoyable is of paramount importance in my view, providing people with the knowledge they need to make better life choices, be it about the food they eat, the respect they feel for their local environment or opening their eyes to their own talent and potential and encouraging them to achieve.

I relish the opportunity to sew the seed of creativity in people of all ages, and understand the importance of someone expressing interest in your work, encouragement and reassurance can go a long way to getting a project completed. I’d also like to redress the creative balance and make creativity an equally important life skill in geographic areas where it may not hold as much gravitas as others. I want to encourage people to take responsibility for their own environments and hopefully rebuild a sense of community along the way.

As a new graduate I have a passion to succeed and a desire to help others do the same, I have boundless energy and enthusiasm and relish meeting and working with a diverse range of people on a wealth of new and exhilarating projects.
