A bit about: New Zealand Book Month (NZBM) began in 2006 and runs each September, showcasing New Zealand books and writers in the media, the web, and within a huge national events calendar.
The Month works to create a fresh new message about reading on a popular and very public basis. We work with a variety of literary organisations, publishers, booksellers, celebrities and charities to try and increase the spotlight on New Zealand writing across the board.
Big Idea: New Zealand writers should be the stars of our literary industry - why? Because New Zealander's are the best placed to solve unique New Zealand issues. We have a distinct voice, cultural ethos, humour, way of speaking, way of being, and our books and stories showcase all of this, to New Zealand and to the world. Our voices should be our choices - and our writers, young and old, hold our stories and a cultural vision of our nation.
