A bit about

I'm Phil. Some of my friends call me Phil. Some call me Phil-Phillery-Phil=Phillery-Phil-Phil-Pharoo.

I love to draw. I'd love to be able to get my skills to a standard great enough to accomplish visual feats of illustration which create starry-eyed, head-scratching, cult-like followers in my wake. (Wistful and totally ideal dreams) I want to be able to create visual stories legendary enough to challenge my favourite fictions, like Brave New World, or Marabou Stork Nightmares or The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and to extend beyond them... however; the challenge remains to question the single sided 2D reality of most illustrators. How does one capture so much on a single dimension? I'm considering a bible-thick, colour swirling creation of visual stories...

In the meantime, I'm just sharpening my skills and experimenting in a mixture of media. Trying to remain as open to new as I am concentrated on the old. I've completed a Diploma in digital media and design, only to find I'd rather not sit behind a computer on the daily grind and am currently studying a diploma in art and creativity. I'm also a former full-time wedding cake designer.

I'm hugely interested in the following:
Alex Grey, Mike Giant, Sylvia Ji, Pink Floyd, Jack Kerouac, George Stubbs and Salvador Dalí, A Clockwork Orange, The Science of Sleep, Studio Ghibli. Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood, Tool, David Attenborough, Larry David, The Beatles, Mitch Hedberg and the most important of all - Mr Bill Hicks;

Big Idea

All I'm doing is trying to do the best I possibly can to create a full-time career in doing art of some kind... I'm not sure where that lies or what it is, but anything creative based which keeps me standing tall instead of crouched in shame inside an office cubicle behind the glare of another computer barking orders at me is a life I believe is worth being passionate about and struggling for.
