RAISING THE BARRE
Classical & contemporary master dance classes for the professional dance community in Wellington
Raising the Barre (RTB) offers advanced ballet and contemporary classes to the professional dance community to fill the niche between the school and company class. RTB welcomes retired and aspiring professional dancers as well as professionals/freelancers with open classes available to members of both the local and visiting dance community. Local dancers from various disciplines can supplement their existing training and visiting dancers have a place to take class when away from their home studios.
Classes are open and the instructors teach on a rotational basis, to add to the diversity of styles and techniques dancers can learn from. New Zealand’s most recognised dancers and choreographers can come to Raising the Barre to share their knowledge as teachers or to learn from the masters and leading choreographers in the city as well as guests from abroad.

Where do freelance choreographers, dancers and physical performers find advanced technique classes to supplement their training? Where do professional dancers go for a workout when visiting Wellington? Where do retired professional dancers go for a class if they still enjoy the artform/sport but dont want a career of it anymore? Where do Wellington's talented dancers, choreographers and trainers go to connect with each other?
