Renee Liang is a poet, playwright and fiction writer.
She is an MC at Poetry Live, Auckland's weekly poetry performance venue, a founding member of the Guerrilla Poets and has participated in and hosted a number of Poetry Slams and other poetry readings in NZ and Australia.
She has had a number of short plays performed as part of Flip the Script and Ignite festival. In 2009, three of her plays will be produced: short play Mask and full-length plays Lantern and The Bone Feeder (the last also as director).
Renee is working on her first novel, and also writes short fiction and non-fiction. She was the winner of the 2007 NZCA/Listener Short Story competition. She holds a Masters degree in Creative Writing from the University of Auckland. She has so far released three chapbooks of poetry: Chinglish, Banana and Cardiac Cycle.
In 2009 Renee will be completing a degree in playwriting at the University of Auckland. She's also a part-time Paediatrician with an interest in Youth Health. Renee's poetry riffs on themes of cross-cultural heartache (and headaches!), family, love, loss and living in New Zealand.
