A bit about

Waitomo Caves Hotel is a long established icon of the New Zealand hospitality and visitor industry (since 1908) and perhaps one of the most interesting and beautiful hotels in New Zealand (certainly also one of the most haunted). It sits atop a high hill overlooking broad stretches of hill country, farms, forests, the Waitomo Village and entrances to some of the largest and most beautiful cave systems in the world. For many local people and guests a like the hotel has for many decades been a beacon of entertainment, cultural, good conversation, art, design, objet d'art and fine cuisine. The character and atmosphere of the co-joined Victorian and the late Art Deco buildings are a lasting legacy of the original designers who provided a place of great attarction, comfort, style, amusement and retreat. Various managements and trades peole have not always been kind across the decades and much of the original furnishings, works of art, bespoke lamp fittings etc have been stripped from the hotel. There have been a number of utilitarian upgrades to various parts of the building. Nevertheless there are still sufficient remaining elements that evoke the sense of grandeur that once was and that express the heart and soul of the building - which still attracts many lovers of the hotel.
