I most definitely have to say that I agree with Richie. I enjoyed noticing your compositional craftsmanship of the differing volumes of tones to put emphasis on both the feeling expressed as well as the sound overall. I love the transitions from the initial feeling that the light in dynamic vocal part gives off, to adding a harmonic layer onto the vocals (signifying the singer has a person to lean on through the struggles), to the main message being to just stand tall. I stand and applaud virtually for your musical masterpiece. It was very moving for me personally because I've had to stand tall, hold my ground, and pull through the event life has thrown me into. I thank you and want to say that your singing style in this song gave off a feeling like you were standing right in front of me, singing these motivational, inspirational, and non-confrontational words of wisdom true from your hearts. Thanks again!

NZ singer-songwriter and well-known Auckland busker Sam RB is heading to the UK to perform at a major NZ Olympic event, held at The Banqueting House, Whitehall on July 26th. Sam wrote and entered ‘Stand Tall’ in a nation wide search for NZ’s Olympic Anthem (the Play It Strange Olympic Songwriting Competition) and won. Chris Laidlaw describes the anthem as “aspirational...a song like the ones we used to know from a time we thought might have gone..maybe it hasn't".

Prior to Whitehall, and for the month of July, Sam RB will be doing what she knows best - a ‘busking tour’ – and she is hoping to pick up a gig here and there along the way. She plans to visit – Cornwall, Amsterdam, France, Shrewsbury (to open the L-ympics at the L-Fest), Dublin and Edinburgh, but is open to other options if there’s somewhere to play and stay.

Back home in NZ – Sam RB is currently funding her next album by playing music on Queen Street and at weekend markets around Auckland. She self-released her debut album in 2010 and one single ‘Life Has Just Begun’ features in the NZ film ‘The Insatiable Moon’

Other recent performances include the Fonterra Shout Kiwi Day Out at the Auckland Domain, and The TSB Bank Festival Of Lights in New Plymouth. Sam also provides music at private functions and corporate events.

“The last couple of years have been quite a journey,” says Sam. “I decided to make the most of any opportunity that presented itself, and now here I am on the way to play at an Olympic event and busk on the other side of the world - a rather odd but exciting combination!”

Mike Chunn (Split Enz), who has been a mentor to Sam, says “Sam’s song-writing skills and the beautiful ambition that has propelled those songs to reality, makes for a story to be celebrated. Against many odds Sam has crawled, knelt and reached until she now stands tall with a body of work – an album of wonderful, brave and honest songs – that show her to be a major talent.”
