'Lyrics In My Head' by Lynette Diaz, 2008
Lynette grew up in the high desert of New Mexico and brings to her music the fiery passion of her Mexican-American roots, along with a sense of adventure forged from years living abroad, including three continents before settling in New Zealand.
The 14-tracks on her debut cd release, ‘Lyrics In My Head’ are a testament to a long journey of self-discovery. The tracks resonate with the universal pangs of heartbreak, loss, growth, new-found clarity, love and joy.
The songs are powerful, yet subtle. Easing their way into your heart and mind through the pureness of the message and the honest vocal delivery.
"My music is personal, but I believe the messages are universal. Each song is heart-driven, by which I mean that I never pick up a guitar with the intention to write a certain way or a certain theme. The songs happen, no force of will. If it's not happening, then I know it\'s not meant to be written."
Lynette teams with Christchurch-based musician/engineer, Andrew Morriss for the album production. Morriss\' deft guitar work compliments each song.
"The songs on 'Lyrics In My Head' tend to have a positivity about them. Even those about heartbreak, pain and loss. I think it\'s due to the fact that my general outlook on life is positive, and somehow that comes out in the music. I know that all these emotions mean I\'m alive, good or bad, and the songs are somehow, maybe on a subconscious level, allowing me, and the listener, to see solutions."

Lynette sings with a fiery voice that she attributes to her Mexican-American roots. “Music comes through me, it’s a passion, it’s heart-filled, it’s fun, it’s intense and it’s all rooted in my upbringing around a hodgepodge of various styles of music from 60’s and 70’s folk/country, independent singer-songwriter, 80’s techno and traditional Mexican folklore music.
Lynette released her debut Cd, “Lyrics In My Head’ in late 2008. The song ‘Living Before Dying’ has received honorable mention in the Unisong International Songwriting Contest and Peacedriven Song Competition. Various songs from the Cd have received airplay in NZ, Australia and United States. Lynette returned to New Zealand in July 2009 having spent several months performing in the Seattle area of the United States.
Upon describing the motivation for submitting 'Living Before Dying' in the social/political category of the Unisong competition, Lynette stated, "I believe the song's main message is one of Universal community and dignity. I've previously stated that one person can make a difference in the world, and that many of us, resonating with the spirit of social and moral justice, can create positive large scale changes."
Besides her own music, she is active in promoting other New Zealand female acoustic artists through the New Zealand Women's Acoustic Collective, which she founded in 2008 . The NZWAC celebrates a sense of community and collaboration amongst member female artists.
Lynette is also the radio host of "FemAcoustica Music and Review" , a monthly radio show on Plains FM 96.9 (Christchurch), featuring female acoustic artists, with an emphasis on New Zealand music.
