Ironic Trio - In Song

Ironic Trio are a jazz trio based in Auckland, New Zealand, led by accomplished British-born pianist Mark Baynes. The trio also includes the talented Aaron Coddel playing acoustic upright bass and the legendary Jason Orme on drums. Additional guest performers include Trudy Lile on flute and vocals, Georgia Wood on vocals, Kushal Talele on tenor saxophone and Andy Smith on guitar. In Song is the second release by Ironic Trio, following the 'In Colour' EP, released in 2009.

The album comprises an all-original set of modern compositions written by Baynes, incorporating elements of swing, funk and drum & bass. The compositions also formed a component of Baynes' Master of Music degree from The University of Auckland. The majority of the album was recorded and edited over an intensive three-day session in September 2010 with recording engineer Andrew Brereton at The Kenneth Myers Centre. It was then mixed and mastered by Steve Garden at The Garden Shed Music Studio.
