Chain links

Interlocked terracotta chain links in a crumpled pile

Chain links refers to confinement, however ironically it is constructed from a fragile material. It is part of a series of works exploring ideas of value. The work Tiffany Diamond is an over sized brilliant cut diamond. This work embodies material wealth. Chain links sits along side Tiffany Diamond where it implys abuses of freedom related to the aquisition of diamonds, or other forms of excessive wealth.

Hello, I am a Ceramic artist working from my home studio in Dunedin. I studied at Otago Polytechnic School of Art and graduated in 2006 with a BFA sculputure major. Since finishing my degree my practice has followed two main paths. In one direction I have been making ceramic sculpture which explores consumerism and culture, i am especially interested in food and our love/hate, need/want relationship with it.
The other direction is a collaborative project with designer Karen Taylor O'Neill. Together we have designed and are producing (in my home studio) an artisan range of domestic ware.
The more i learn about Ceramics the more i realize there is to know. Its a complex, exciting and surprising medium and i am seduced by its versatility, functionality and beauty.
