Age and Time; Nest
Lockets; sentimental keepsakes. Worn close, they hold memories. Seasons change, we age and time passes. Stories are created and retold, places are visited and objects collected that evoke nostalgia. Senses trigger recollection, traditions pass between generations like heirlooms.
I couldn’t wait to leave
the small town I grew up in.
I craved the freedom of being
anonymous in a big city.
Not long after I moved away I felt so terribly homesick.
I spent all my time at home.
I was really busy with my
children, the house was alive.
When they left it was so quiet.
One is a series of six lockets. A collaborative work between jewellery artist Chris Granshaw and artist Mary Whalley.
Locket and chain: copper, 9ct gold, blue patina, varnish and wax finish.
Contents: twigs, polymer clay, and paper decoupage.
