Age and time; Ear and shell
Lockets; sentimental keepsakes. Worn close, they hold memories. Seasons change, we age and time passes. Stories are created and retold, places are visited and objects collected that evoke nostalgia. Senses trigger recollection, traditions pass between generations like heirlooms.
Crashing waves, the cold wind howling loneliness.
Larks singing over the dunes, children laughing the warm hum of summer.
One in a series of six lockets. A collaboration between jewellery artist Chris Granshaw and artist Mary Whalley.
Locket and chain: copper, 9ct gold, rust patina, varnish and red wax finish.
Contents: bronze ear and shell.
On view from 19 March 2010 at the new FrontRoom Gallery, 12 Wesley St, Pukekohe.
