Kaleidos Series
Statement on “Kaleidos Series”
The Kaleidos Series represents what I see ‘between the lines’ of my larger artworks. These smaller works are simply playful explorations of media & ideas. I have sketchbooks full of thumbnails, many of which will never come into form: the Kaleidos Series gives them an arena to juxtapose, tumble and interact with each other in a myriad of ways.
“Kaleidos” is from the word Kaleidoscope (Kalos : Beautiful, Eidos : Form).
It is a fascinating toy: colour and shape collide, while mirrors give infinite compositions. The intention with this organic series is to have a constant grid of nine tile artworks. Over time the tiles will be replaced, hung on a different rotation and introduce new media. The series will form a slow moving art animation. The Kaleidos Series will hopefully become a fluid, unpredictable, Self-inspiring, playful exploration of media!
*Images show the first 9 tiles, which were created between 05/2009 & 02/2010.
The wood base for each tile is 35cm x 35cm.
The material is hand carved & shaped acrylic sheet, that ranges from 6 to 8mm thick.

Inspired & passionate about art, I practice its creation full time. With a studio in Christchurch, an education in Toronto & a history between the two, I dedicate myself towards the expression of an inner vision. I'm addicted to working with different media: acrylic forms; carved wood; shaped cane... all towards playing with metaphoric layers. I get a huge kick out of Nature, inspired mostly by organic forms. When creating, I'm focused on an outcome that is both aesthetic & spiritually stimulating.
