Statement on 'Singularity':

This work formed out of chaos.

I wanted to play with being out of & in control.

I let the cane pieces fall on a blank canvas, with the understanding that where they ended up, was out of my control & where they had to remain in the work.  I wanted the voice of the chaos to resonate through the piece, juxtaposed with my own creative control.

A singularity is an occurance in our universe where gravity is so dense, it becomes unmeasurable.  There is chaos in that density, and it is out of our realm of control or definition.  I wanted to form an artwork around one random happening that continued endlessly into the work, as well as reaching out with the artworks seed shape.

The process of starting with a random occurance of material fascinates me, and will weave its way through future works.

Inspired & passionate about art, I practice its creation full time. With a studio in Christchurch, an education in Toronto & a history between the two, I dedicate myself towards the expression of an inner vision. I'm addicted to working with different media: acrylic forms; carved wood; shaped cane... all towards playing with metaphoric layers. I get a huge kick out of Nature, inspired mostly by organic forms. When creating, I'm focused on an outcome that is both aesthetic & spiritually stimulating.
