What happens when you find yourself alone in a crowd? It’s not as if you are ‘lonely’ per se. Friends, family, and colleagues are there alongside you. But when you feel as if you are alone in terms of finding your place, your creative life can be a lonely sort of space.

I have decided to start this page, not because I am particularly interesting or enjoy sharing things about myself, but because I have a passion, and with this passion comes restrictions, and sacrifice. I am well aware that life in general is full of challenges, so I thought what better way to tackle one of mine than by making it ‘visible’.

    This serves two functions:
    1. Is to make sure I stick to my word (once I’ve told the world I am going to do something, I kind of have to do it, or at least try) (and)
    2. The lonely space I find myself in hopefully won’t seem so lonely once I begin to explore the possibilities for me, and others like me.

In order for me to explain to you ‘who I am’, I think it is best to start with ‘who I am not.’ I am not an academic. I am not a writer. I am not even a very good speller, so this is something you will have to live with if you choose to tag along. Who I am trying to be is a practicing artist.

I have been attending the Art Station for the past 18 months and have enjoyed every moment. My class will be over at the end of this year, and I am very much interested in continuing my art. I am under no illusion that this will be anything other than hard work, but I am prepared to give it a go.

So, how do you find your place in a crowd? This page will track my progress as I try to establish some sort of foothold in a world that has been labelled cutthroat and elitist to name just a few.

I know that this idea is nothing new, but it is an idea none-the-less. So, let the exploration begin …
