Whenua I

This series highlights the 'whenu' or muka strands of whakapapa that connect us together like a korowai, to our whanau and hapu. It is a celebration of the wharetangata nga wahine tupuna o tatou (our women ancestors) who were masters in the craft of korowai.

This work is currently on show at Te Puia in Rotorua.

I'm a multi faceted artist designer. I care about honoring the source of inspiration, how the idea will interact with materials, the process and how the works can evolve into other forms and ideas.

I see my cultural heritage as something uniquely special that should be preserved, perpetuated, and positively promoted through the generations, while remembering the essence of it's traditional source.
