R.J.
This is a small square painting that was in the SPLICE exhibition. I had an idea to do a group of these and hang them together. They would each represent a person in my life. So far this is this the only one I have done. It's a painting of one of the many cartoon faces I used to draw in my school books as doodles. I drew these when I was bored in class but later saw them again and saw some meaning in each of them.
I would love to do a series of different shapes and sizes involving these "moonface" doodles.
R.J. relates to the initials of my father. I'm not sure if this face represents him as a person or a more abstract feeling or facet of our relationship.
I did put this up for sale in the exhibition but it doesn't feel complete to me and I feel it needs to be part of a group of works, like a kind of family portrait of canvases.

im an amateur 'artist'. i am primarily a painter but am interested in film, writing, photography, collage and for fun, cartoons. i've designed concert posters, painted a mural, made sets and props for productions and have taught a ten week course teaching art techniques to children from 5 to 12 years old. im more into cultural/urban art rather than fine arts and most of my stuff originates from boredom than any kind of discipline.
I am currently trying to finish a work of fiction and develop my writing skills. I was also involved in the SPLICE exhibition at Thistle Hall and hope to be involved in more group exhibitions in the future.
