One Way Bridge

'One Way Bridge' featuring an old suspension bridge set under a fiery Turner-esque sky. The tense narrative of this work is amplified by the bridges sharp and elongated perspective. The high tension cables work to draw your eyes to its dark arches set beneath a vapourous sky. An undertaker wheels a casket to the other side signifying passage, it suggests the fading of people; the fading of place...

Set in the Motueka Valley (South Island, NZ) this image shows the old suspension bridge that spans the river from the ‘left bank’. Many aspects of old NZ life can be discovered along this road. Old homesteads, house trucks and rustic communities with little halls and churches. Some of this life still flourishes along the river whilst other aspects are slowly fading and passing on over the ‘One Way Bridge’
