ONE EYE SHUT, original NZ art, BONNIE COAD.
ONE EYE SHUT, my own original painting, completed in 2009 and exhibited at Riverside Cafe in Upper Moutere, Motueka and The Cloudy Skies Gallery in Blenheim.
Measuring 60.2 cm by 49.5cm.
An unique take on portraiture.
The inside out quality invites the viewer in and demands contemplation, it's a challenging and thought provoking composition featuring texture and color.
The ideas behind the image deal with the artists apprehensions connected with putting art works out in the public arena to be assessed and judged by others.
The subject is depicted with hands up, hands being very important "Tools"
One eye is open, demanding attention the other closed, shutting out the world.
This is a personal piece and one of my favorites.
I am a self taught artist and have been exhibiting and selling my art for about 12 years.
I come from an artistic family and was always encouraged to explore my creative side while growing up.
We lived in a very isolated area of the West Coast when I was young and had no electricity or modern convenience's.
I think that this played a large part in nurturing my creative side.
I am House Artist for the Riverside Cafe in Upper Moutere, Motueke.
They are open for nine months of the year, and my art is exhibited for most of this time.
