ASTHMA
This art work explores what having Asthma feels like to me.
38cmx38cm square
I have suffered from this condition on and off for about ten years.
The colors chosen are chaotic and clashing. The dull brown was deliberately chosen to express the lifeless feeling asthma gives me. The cramped composition is symbolic of congestion and being over powered.
The almost visible face is used to suggest the feeling of fading away, disappearing. A few times I have been very sick with this condition and have felt as though I was barely alive at all, it can make you feel very fragile.
I am a self taught artist and have been exhibiting and selling my art for about 12 years.
I come from an artistic family and was always encouraged to explore my creative side while growing up.
We lived in a very isolated area of the West Coast when I was young and had no electricity or modern convenience's.
I think that this played a large part in nurturing my creative side.
I am House Artist for the Riverside Cafe in Upper Moutere, Motueke.
They are open for nine months of the year, and my art is exhibited for most of this time.
