Whangarei Art Museum - Rainbow Warriors and Remainders
The Whangarei Art Museum presents 'Rainbow Warrior and Remainders', commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Rainbow Warrior bombing on 10th July 1985.
Photographs by Gil Hanly and memorabilia loaned by Greenpeace NZ and private collections. This exhibition is also showing 'Blast !' The story of New Zealand's struggle to be nuclear free cannot be told without reference to the late Pat Hanly and his iconic works around the fear of protest against nuclear weapons. Pat Hanly - the painter and his protests.
As reported on Radio NZ and in the media Bunny McDiarmid’s opening speech at the exhibition was very moving and heartfelt. The events of 25 years ago remain poignant and compelling to Greenpeace and the public at large.
Kind thanks to Tania Davidson for NZ Sign interpretation of Bunny’s speech for the art museum. Content by: www.insitemedia.co.nz

- Whangarei Art Museum
The Whangarei Art Museum opened in June 1996 in an historical arts and crafts building in beautiful Cafler Park adjacent to the cultural amenities of Forum North Theatre and the conservatory and Fernery. The museum is the public gallery of the district and the only public gallery in Northland.
The art museum is the permanent home of the city art collection which embraces both heritage and contemporary art work. The art museum is also the venue for internally curated and national touring exhibitions - designed to showcase the full diversity of creative art practice in New Zealand and Northland.
