Storybox Auckland | Karakia

Living Room Festival, Princess Wharf

Storybox was invited to be part of the Auckland City Council’s Living Room festival – a winter outdoor installation art festival – in collaboration with the National Maritime Museum. The focus was on four periods of New Zealand migration stories – Maori arrival, 1870s, early 1900s and post WW2. Using animated text, statistics, filmed archive, interviews and an original soundtrack, the final work was performed live on site. We worked directly with the archive department of the museum and were given access to primary documents such as diarys, ship logs, ephemera of the era, and audio biographies of immigrants.
