Crossing Lines | Meeting With Sheikh Amir
Meeting With Sheikh Amir
"Heather and I met up to go to the Mosque. Heather was wearing a kulta and chemise and a scarf to cover her head. I was wearing dress pants and a jacket. When we got there Heather went to wait in the women's area and I went to pray. I got called by a man just after I had finished my prayers. He said "I think there is a white lady waiting for you outside. Did she come here with you to convert?" I didn't register what he was saying so just replied 'Yep'. He said, "Masha'Allah". I went into the Sheikh's office to join Heather and the Sheikh. He was sitting on a long couch and along the walls were ceiling high bookshelves full of beautifully covered books - green, red...golden calligraphy writing...four, five books together in sets. Heather and I sat on single red armchairs.
From the meeting I learned some things ...
One was about silence - "
