Findings | Workshop #3

Thank you to all who attended one or all of the three workshops towards the establishment of an Auckland arts advisory group.

In our third and final workshop (notes attached), the working group sought feedback from attendees on the proposed model they had developed for the group. This was basically composed of temporary 'reference groups' or 'task clusters' that would arise at need (made up of willing members from the creative sector at large) to provide advice and lead projects around issues arising that were important to the sector. These clusters would be initiated and guided by a 'facilitation team' who would be responsible for communicating with the clusters, the wider sector, and council and other such bodies (see presentation slides for more details).

The response to this model from those attending the workshop was largely affirmative, with some feedback provided that the working group has taken on board. Also discussed were the group's purpose and charter, and how to select and recruit the members of the facilitation team. See the feedback document attached for a summary of the workshop presentations and views expressed by attendees.

After some delay (apologies), the working group was finally able to meet to discuss this feedback and steps forward. There was much support during the workshop for turning thoughts into action and the working group has decided to proceed on that basis.

Developments:

  • The name 'Creative Coalition' was settled on for its inclusiveness and freshness.
  • An identity and website is being developed so that the network can begin to be expanded and information delivered more easily.
  • Your contact details will be moved to our new mailing list database, please contact us if you would like to unsubscribe.
  • The working group continues to develop a strategy for recruiting the facilitation team, more details to come soon.
  • The working group will continue its activities and ensure the new incoming team is well briefed before it steps down.

All the resources we have previously sent you (workshop summaries and an arts relevant summary and submission guide for Auckland Unleashed) are available on The Big Idea, please click here to view.

Thank you all for involvement so far, we are very excited about the future of this group!

    Creative Coalition

In the transition to the new Auckland governance, the creation of an Auckland Arts & Culture Advisory Group by Auckland’s arts and culture sector was strongly recommended by members of the ATA. (The sports and recreation sector have undertaken this type of regional strategy development some time ago.)

After three workshops attended by members of the local creative sector across 2010-2011, Creative Coalition was born. We now continue to act as a conduit between council (and other bodies) and the Auckland creative sector, championing the arts and creative expression in Auckland.
