Freelance in ad agency...tell me how?
Hi Brian
I am currently working as a creative writer in radio, developing, writing and producing advertising campaigns.
I have also had a company producing sung radio jingles for 7 years. I have a passion for marketing and am an ideas person..I would like to move into writing and or producing TV commercials ..here's the challenge though..I want to work freelance as I love living where I do and while I'm happy to spend time in the bigger cities I don't want to live in them.... My question is ..do you think this is a realistic 'want' ie is this something advertsing agencies do and how do I go about it..I can put togther a really good skite tape as I have won quite a number of awards..I can also do graphic design and am a songwriter/musician...
Thanks for your time..I appreciate it!

SUZI-it all depends on your location and how frequently you are going to get about and stimulate your client contacts. We employ people such as yourself from time to time on various projects but we cannot rely on them in terms of their sporadic availability.
You would do well to keep your client base very small and visit them frequently with a view to perhaps even operating out of their offices for the odd day at a time just so they get to know who you are. Out of sight out of mind when it comes to this kind of skill set unfortunately in the creative circles.
You will need to develop a very successfully "mating" system to anecdotally offer insights into your skill sets. You could do this by way of observations of current news and events etc and brighten people days so they look forward to your particular wit and wisdom. It's not easy to have a bet each way in terms of dream location and arm's-length relationships. Your tape won't do it alone. Best suggestion is to build a community of contactS and entertainment in your own right. You've certainly got the skills to do it.
Feel free to send us the material about your work
kindest wishes and best of luck-Brian
