What initiatives, innovations, interventions could help?
In a perfect world, what kind of funding initiatives, innovations and / or interventions could help you with that?

In a perfect world, it would be great to have CNZ start a new funding initiative within the public sector, or it could be to set up through the Minister for CNZ - a seperate funding stream that is only for local Govt and Central Govt agencies to apply to. Surely a system that allows a heavy weight like Auckland City Council (annual income $380 million) which is financially dominant in the regional arts sector applying in the same strand as an individual artist or independant arts organisation needs addressing?
Lets hope the this kind of innovative public funding intervention happens in step with when the new regional Council takes over.
Also an interesting idea regarding the CNZ funding to local government (but not one that the ASB Community Trust can sort out though!)
But it has made me think: are there areas for funding in the arts people think should be solely the role of local or central government rather than trusts and other philanthropic funders? Or does it work well being able to source funding from several different sources?
Auckland has so many talented artists yet in my view, visually Auckland city does not yet reflect that.
Wellington city for instance has a strong artistic, creative presence. This is especially noticeable along Oriental parade, Cuba mall and Courtney place.
I would like to see more funding spent on helping to make Auckland look more like the vibrant, creative city that it really is.
I believe when artists or any type of creative thinkers for that matter are surrounded by prominent, imaginative, original artwork it creates a bigger source of inspiration than it would just staring at bland office buildings and retail stores.
Thanks Jacqui, public art is something the ASB Community Trust has only funded a couple of times, so it's a good thing to keep thinking about.
We have, in the past, also supported sculpture festivals, which is hopefully a good way of supporting and promoting the artists whose work may be used in public art in the future.
How do people feel about support for festivals across the many art forms?
(I agree with your comments about Wellington city, those central parts have really changed for the better in the last 15 years or so!)
