I am a self-taught artist from Aotearoa New Zealand’s South Island. I was born and raised for my first fifteen years in Nelson and spent a subsequent twelve years in Christchurch. I currently reside in Wellington and Whanganui. My ancestry is Maori (from Takaka) on my mother’s side and Scottish/Spanish on my father’s.
I have spent the last two decades exploring the expressive form of painting and I have been, to date, mostly an alternative artist, outside the gallery scene and showing in non-commercial spaces.
Having painted my way through Europe for a few years from 2003, my travels have helped me to observe and construct a narrative in my work. I have been looking, firstly, towards similarities and differences within the frame of my New Zealand identity and secondly, at how the New Zealand identity fits within the wider global context. I currently have works in collections in New Zealand, Spain, France, Italy and London.

Designer Bookbinder – I have been in the bookbinding industry since completing my degree in 2004. I have gained a skilled range of knowledge and expertise with a flair for igniting passion in the ‘product as art’ concept.
Communicating, taking instructions, training and helping - I have been described as a “resourceful team-player who can be relied upon to get the job done with no drama”. I am patient and calm which allows others to better digest the guidance and knowledge I pass on.
Exhibition Volunteer – As a past graduate and exhibitor and a volunteer for many local and international artist exhibitions including a Vito Acconci symposium and a Pat Hanly Retrospective Exhibition I understand the various exhibition notions students need to be aware of when working on projects.
Wearable art youth tutor - Selected by The friends of the Onehunga Community House Inc to tutor at Wearable Art workshops for youth under 18 years culminating in a community show. I will help participants develop ideas and techniques in both wearable art sculpture (‘body as frame’) and wearable art as clothing (‘body as canvas’) using found and waste materials. The date is set for March-April 2011 pending funding application approval.
Meticulous recordkeeping - As a team player I value the importance of data accuracy and easy retrieval to aid work productivity. If there is no system in place to record valuable information I have in the past taken it upon myself to create and maintain a new system.
