Freelance Market website relaunches

Business models for publishing are breaking the world over. No news there. From printing houses that are being asked to use lower quality paper stock and print fewer pages to save publisher’s money, to freelancers who are having to work even harder to promote themselves. Changes are affecting everyone in the media.

As editors need less copy so the concept of syndicating features has become a less profitable business model. At Freelance Market, something had to give. So, Freelance Market is dead. Long live Freelance Market. The domain name says it all – Freelance Market – a market place for freelancers.

The new website, which is being ‘soft launched’ this week is a place where all freelancers can promote their skills and services to editors, publishers and fellow professionals across the country and around the world.

“We are starting over,” says the site’s owner Steve Hart. “And while the decision took six months to make, we believe the new Freelance Market site will offer genuine value to any freelancer who uses it. It’s early days, it is a work in progress, but the new site has come to life and is now open for business.”

The new Freelance Market includes the best of the old site – such as free resources for freelancers – but will grow to offer a whole new level of information and help for freelance writers among others.

“Listing services on the new site is easy,” says Hart. “And as a special opening offer we are discounting the annual listing fee to just $49 – half price. But don't tell our accountant - she thinks we were giving it away at $99!”

Hart has also installed a powerful search engine on the site so people with work to offer can quickly find the best people using freelancer’s names and key words.

“Our aim is to bring publishers and freelancers together as easily as possible,” says Hart. “We’ve even installed a job board and are encouraging employers and agencies to post their jobs here for free.”
