Theatre recognised in Business Excellence Awards
For the first time in the 16-year history of the Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards, there is a theatre among the finalists.
In a year that saw the greatest number of entries ever, Howick Little Theatre, a first-time entrant, emerged as a finalist in the Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality category.
Enterprising Manukau CEO Gaelle Deighton says, "What we’re particularly delighted about is the high quality of the entries and of the businesses taking part.”
Manukau Mayor Len Brown is also delighted about the popularity of the awards. “It says a great deal about Manukau businesses that in spite of the economic recession, they’re taking action and facing the challenges with a positive approach.”
The winners will be announced at the grand finale on 18 September at the glamorous black-tie gala dinner.
Founded in 1954 by professional actress Alma Woods, Howick Little Theatre is a not-for-profit group with a reputation for quality productions. Its purpose-built facilities are in Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga.
Manukau City Council and Westpac are the major sponsors of the business awards, which are delivered on behalf of the council by Enterprising Manukau. The awards were instigated 16 years ago to recognise, encourage and assist business growth and development. Other sponsors include the Wiri Licensing Trust, New Zealand Herald, Brookfields Lawyers, EMA, COGITA, RSM Prince, Manukau Water, ACC and the Manukau Community Foundation.
