Nicola Dench's work poised for world exposure

Premier Award Winner Ceramicus 2009 Southern Alps

Wellington ceramic artist Nicola Dench is poised for world exposure through her inclusion in an internationally renowned art reference book.

Nicola, who recently opened her studio in Seatoun, says it's fantastic opportunity to showcase her individual pieces on an international stage.

The book "Ceramics Today" which will feature Nicola, is distributed to art lovers in America, Britain, Italy and Japan and references some of the most contempory work being produced. "Its such an honour as this book will remain on the shelves of art lovers forever..." she said

Nicola says this is an exciting acknowledgement of my ceramic process where I am continually pushing the boundaries and developing ways of working with clay.  Her pieces are inspired by the rugged Wellington landscape and  are handbuilt.

Nicola recently won the Premier Award at the Wellington Potters association annual "Ceramicus" exhibition with her vessel "Southern Alps" and says this was an equally exciting occasion to get local recognition of my work.

Nicola Dench's studio The Clay Penguin is open for adult and child art tuition and school holiday programmes.  Nicola can be contacted on 9383356 or through her website www.claypenguin.co.nz
