Job description:

StarJam was recently chosen as a finalist in the 2010 New Zealander of the Year Awards. This national recognition for our work validates what our children, families and audiences are telling us. We are changing lives big time!

StarJam, an innovative organisation dedicated to empowering young people with disabilities, runs 16 performance workshop programmes each week, eleven of them in Auckland.   We are seeking a conscientious person to co-ordinate these programmes in Auckland and to be the production manager for two annual shows, one in Auckland and the other in Hamilton.

About the Position

The Programme Coordinator will be the key contact for approximately 120 young people with disabilities and their families, the workshop tutors and volunteers.  These communications set the scene for everyone in the StarJam community to realise their full potential.   We are staging two shows in November which involve a total of approximately 160 young performers.   The Programme Coordinator will play a key role in the production of these two shows.

Main tasks of the role include:

  • Ensuring the smooth running of the weekly performance programmes
  • Liaising with the young performers and their families
  • Keeping accurate records
  • Using our database for mail merges and other communications
  • Organising rehearsals, distributing music, writing run-sheets and carrying out many other detailed tasks for the shows

We predict you will get a deep sense of fulfillment from your work and at the same time meeting the nicest people ever!

About You

You will be the kind of person who

  • Easily builds rapport with all people
  • Has outstanding communication skills
  • Enjoys exceeding people’s expectations
  • Has a wide range of administrative and people skills

You will occasionally need to visit the workshops in the evenings (approx one workshop per fortnight) and work one Saturday afternoon per month. You will also need to have your own transport and be able to travel to Hamilton occasionally.
