Call For Applicants - Producing Project 2012
The Producing Project is a joint initiative between DANZ and Choreographic Research Aotearoa, Dance Studies, University of Auckland to develop producing skills in recent dance graduates, freelance dancers, new producers and emerging theatre practitioners including new and experimental choreography. This project follows on from the highly successful 2011 Live Series.
Places on this project are limited and will start with a week’s intensive workshops on 27 February.
First part of the project
There will be an intensive week of workshops and seminars during the day, 27 Feb to 2 March, and you must be available to attend the full week. Industry experts will look at the theory and practice of producing including curating, marketing, publicity, budgeting, funding, technical management, and front-of-house management
Second part of the project
The second part of the project is where you get the opportunity to apply this knowledge. You will form a collective and take on the responsibility to produce three public seasons of curated dance and performance. There will be regular weekly meetings for planning and decision making. The three seasons are set for 2 & 3 June; 14 & 15 July; 1 & 2 September all to be held at University venues and to coincide with term holidays.
With advice from a mentor, the collective will manage all aspects of production, including an allocated budget for each performance season and will run their own bank account. There will also be an opportunity for you to choreograph and or perform you own work if you wish to.
Cost - this project is FREE to DANZ Members ($50 membership http://www.danz.org.nz/joindanz.php) who can demonstrate their commitment and enthusiasm. The project will demand your time and commitment from late February to mid-September and you must be available for the whole project. It will also be offered as a postgraduate paper for enrolled students through the University of Auckland Dance Studies programme http://www.creative.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/ds-pgdipcpa
