Conservator, Paintings (fixed term)
We are seeking an experienced paintings conservator to join Te Papa’s Conservation Team. You will work alongside another paintings conservator and the wider Conservation Team that includes objects, textiles, paper and preventive conservators.
A recognised professional conservation qualification and at least five years experience as a paintings conservator in an art gallery or museum environment is essential for this position.
In addition, you will enjoy working co-operatively with other museum/gallery professionals and exploring creative solutions to making collections accessible in safe and culturally-appropriate ways. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will help you in this.
This role requires experience in both preventive and remedial conservation, and you will be confident working with paintings of various construction and age, both contemporary and traditional.
The Conservation Team supports an active programme of acquisitions, exhibitions, lending, touring and collection care. You will bring experience with conservation requirements for exhibition and loans in a museum environment, and current knowledge of standards in handling, display, packing and transit of paintings.
This is a one year fixed term, full time position covering a period of parental leave. The successful candidate will be expected to commence work in early April 2012.
