One of New Zealand's preeminent art galleries, Auckland Art Gallery has just re-opened after an impressive refurbishment and is an inspiring place to work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team in a brand new leadership role, as Curatorial Programmes Manager. Supporting the Head of Programmes you will be responsible for increasing the awareness, understanding and enjoyment of works of art through the development and provision of high quality, innovative exhibitions and collections. You will ensure stakeholders maintain their positive view and support of the Gallery through best practice, effective communication, timely reporting and cooperative and collaborative planning.

Leading a team of seven curators and exhibition project coordinators you will coach and manage your people to successfully deliver major exhibitions such as the Auckland Triennial and Walters Prize.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A Masters in Art History or Arts Management (preferred), or relevant tertiary level qualification
  • A minimum of five years experience in a public gallery/art museum, managing exhibition and collection processes and delivery
  • A proven ability to manage and motivate a dynamic team to achieve results based on agreed performance measures and timelines
  • Project management experience and ability to work cross-functionally, with a broad range of people
  • Experience of high level reporting and managing large budgets
