Job description: 

Te Papa is looking for a Head of Art to provide dynamic and strategic leadership of Art at Te Papa. Of particular importance is ensuring that the national art collection plays a key role in achieving Te Papa’s new vision.

The Head of Art will:

  • lead the development of a strategy for art at Te Papa;
  • build effective national and international relationships;
  • lead the development and display of the national art collection;
  • ensure that art scholarship and research at Te Papa is of the highest standard; and
  • ensure that the collection is made as accessible as possible to people and communities throughout New Zealand, and beyond.

To be successful in this position you will have demonstrated experience in strategic leadership within the art sector, either within New Zealand or internationally, and have an exceptional track record of exhibitions and publications, backed by appropriate tertiary qualifications. We are looking for a person who is politically savvy, an effective negotiator and influencer, and who is able to achieve positive results.
