An exciting opportunity exists at Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira within the Lifelong Learning team for a qualified educator or media professional who’s had considerable experience in the conceptual development and delivery of programmes based on Māori art, cultural history and/or contemporary culture. Fluency in te reo Māori and a high level of proficiency in tikanga Māori is required.

The Lifelong Learning team at Auckland War Memorial Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira welcomes applications from qualified educators or media professionals for the position of Kaiwhakahau Matauranga Māori / Educator Māori.

The primary focus of the Kaiwhakahau Matauranga Māori is to nurture education and community networks within the greater Auckland region to identify potential partnerships for the development and delivery of learning experiences based on the Museum’s taonga Māori exhibits and collections.

While a key focus of the role will be on programming for school and tertiary students, the Kaiwhakahau Matauranga Māori will also be actively involved in conceptualising and developing innovative learning and leisure experiences for family audiences and tourists.

Applicants will have:

• Fluency in te reo Māori and a high level of proficiency in tikanga Māori
• Tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in Education, Mātauranga Māori, Social Sciences, Media Studies or other relevant field
• Well established Māori networks in the Auckland region and strong relationship building skills
• Strong conceptual development and oral delivery skills
• Working knowledge and broad familiarity with current trends and events in popular culture, museums, and/or the education sector.
• Strong awareness of New Zealand and international educational tourism products relating to visitor attractions.

Key skills sought:
