Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira welcomes applications for the position of Educator – Family Programmes. In this role you will be responsible for conceptualising, planning and delivering informal, and curriculum-based programmes for pre-booked and/or independent Early Childhood Education groups.

Reporting to the Family Programme Developer, applications are invited for the position of Educator – Family Programmes. In this role you will be responsible for conceptualising, planning and delivering informal, and curriculum-based programmes for pre-booked and/or independent Early Childhood Education groups. In addition, you will play an active role in planning innovative and engaging experiences based in Weird & Wonderful, the Childrens’ Discovery Centre, special exhibitions and permanent galleries for pre-schoolers, parents and caregivers and family visitors.

Relevant tertiary or teaching qualification

• Significant experience working with young people to develop interactive opportunities for learning and entertainment designed for families to enjoy in a physical environment, or via the internet, radio, film or television.
• Strong passion for the creative and performing arts, New Zealand material culture and/or social/natural history.
• Superb live interpretation skills with the ability to walk into a room and inspire with your confidence and knowledge.
• Knowledge of Te Whariki Early Childhood Curriculum and/or contemporary learning theory with the ability to translate to a museum environment.
•Experience in conceptualisation and implementation of group leisure programmes.
• Experience in articulating concepts and business cases in written and oral form.
• Excellent pronunciation of Te Reo Māori, and confidence to use appropriate greetings and/or commonly understood phrases applicable to the Museum setting. A high level of competency in Māori or a Pacific language would be an advantage.
• High level of written and organisational skills.
