DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
After 4 years with the NZFC Jeremy Macey is leaving in June. His replacement will be a person with a passion for film development and production who is genuinely excited by the prospect of working in a job that, in Jeremy’s words is one where you will: interact with almost every NZ producer working in feature film, as well as writers and other members of the industry. You will see first hand how a project grows from ‘I’ve got a great idea for a film!’ through development and into production. You will get the opportunity to read scripts and applications and to help organise workshops and other professional development activities. In short, this is one helluva job!
This is an administrative position focused on co-ordinating and facilitating the smooth running of the Development Department through:
- Administrative and secretarial assistance to the Head of Development and the department in general
- Management of the application process for feature film development in conjunction with the development department
- Liaison with film-makers on general development information and the NZFC feature film development application procedure
- Assistance with the preparation of policy documents and papers to the NZFC Board
- Maintenance of Development Department systems and database
- Script reading as required
This is a varied and busy role demanding a high level of commitment, with opportunities for training and up-skilling in script development. The successful applicant will be directly responsible to the Head of Development. The position is Wellington based and in the first instance employment will be offered on a fixed 12 month contract.
To be successful in this role you will need to have:
- Excellent oral, written and communication skills
- Excellent word processing skills and knowledge of a range of software packages
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- A demonstrated commitment to working as part of a team
- A demonstrated interest in film development and/or production
- Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Discretion and the ability to remain calm under fire
- Experience in aspects of feature film development and production in NZ would be an advantage.

The Film Commission does not itself produce films. The Film Commission is also active in the sales and marketing of New Zealand films, and it assists with training and professional development within the industry.
