DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVE

After 4 years as a key member of the Development Team Hone Kouka is leaving the NZFC in June.  His replacement will be someone who may bring different experiences with them but will definitely share Hone’s wide knowledge of and deep passion for film and for storytelling in general.

This position focuses on:

  • Script and project reading and reporting
  • Liaison with film-makers whose projects are in development at the NZFC
  • Participation in script development financing committees
  • Preparation of script and project notes and letters as required
  • Preparation of policy documents and papers to the NZFC Board as required
  • Advising film-makers on the application processes for feature film development and production in conjunction with the Head of Development
  • Liaison with the various industry guilds and organisations supported by the NZFC Organisation of professional development and training initiatives

This is a varied and busy role demanding a high level of commitment to the job and to the New Zealand film industry. The position is Wellington based and requires regular travel to Auckland and occasionally to other places in NZ and overseas. In the first instance employment will be offered on a fixed 12 month contract.

The successful applicant will be directly responsible to the Head of Development. To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A passion for cinema
  • A demonstrated commitment to and/or experience in the development of film scripts, or scripts in another dramatic medium
  • A wide knowledge of dramatic writing in film & other media
  • A knowledge and understanding of feature film development and production in NZ
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good organisation skills
  • Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to working as a team

Experience in short or feature film writing and/or production would be an advantage.

The Film Commission does not itself produce films.
