In 1861, Gabriel Read made one of the most important discoveries in New Zealand history when he struck gold in the gully which now bears his name near Lawrence.

In March 2011, the Lawrence/Tuapeka area is celebrating the 150th anniversary of that find.

The plans are in place. We now need a creative, enthusiastic, skilled event manager to implement the plan, and oversee the four days of activities that will celebrate this historic event.

This is a contracted position, reporting to the 150th Celebrations Committee Chair, and Council’s District Development Manager.
