Job description: 

As Archives Support Assistant and part of the front desk team, you will be the point of contact for public enquiries and responsible for determining the archives required to meet their information needs. You will also guide them in the use of the archives and provide related services. A large part of the work involves handling historic building consent enquiries with the remainder of requests coming from a wide range of the public including genealogists, students, amateur and professional historians.

You will:

  • know how to ask the right questions to get the information you need
  • have proven skills in tracking down information 
  • assist customers in a friendly, efficient manner with your excellent customer service skills 
  • be careful, organised and able to be relied upon to take care of archival records, and
  • have a good knowledge of Wellington and an interest in learning even more.

You will ideally have an understanding of archives and a driver’s license. While a tertiary qualification in geography, history or similar area is desirable, it is not a prerequisite.
