Job description: 

You will need library or archive experience/understanding and may be interested in getting work experience or giving back to the community.

This position would suit someone who loves books, history, old photos, ephemera and archives and knows how to put procedures in place to manage them.

Cataloguing material will be a key component.

There is staff support and databases in place and the positon can be tailored to suit your special heritage interest.

 We are also interested in students who have completed library, archive or museum studies and are looking for practical work experience.

This is an unpaid position but not unresourced, hours can be arranged to suit you. A half day a week would be a minimum requirement.

    Howick Historical Village

    Howick Historical Village is an open air museum with 30 heritage buildings furnished with decor and displays highlighting the fencible period of 1840-1880. Costumed villagers are present on Live Days (every third Sunday of the month) and engage in Victorian crafts and pastimes.
    Museum staff care for the artefacts which have been donated by the community and range from fabulous Victorian clothing, to military campaign desks with a focus on authentic domestic items. An archive, library and art collection can be researched by appointment. www.fencible.org.nz
